Just a funny side note, these are right off the Cobra website. I was looking at one(can't remember which one) and noticed someone had circled a transistor and marked it as mod limiter. Wouldn't think the factory would make something like that then put it on their website for all to see.

Never used them either, but the name really rings a bell. I think these are the kits that Selman Enterprises (A.K.A. Secret CB) used to push so much. Just like the Bandit Antenna that you don't hear about anymore

The "monitor" system you are building in a computer case has had my head running ever since I saw it. I want to make something similar. I also want to add a 350 watt computer power supply to it. It should give me about a 30 amp supply. The good part about it, it will also give me a 5volt line, and I am going to pull a 12volt line and make a circuit to make it variable from about 3 volts up. I have about 4 29GTL classics that I am going to use in it. I can make a signal generator with it and put a line in for the 455 signal out of it. I will have a speaker hooked to the 29 so I can hear what ever radio I am working on.  I thought about putting a ssb radio in it so I can check ssb. I pulled my old Browning LTD out the other day, but really don't want to "trash" the LTD. Think I will head over to E-Bay and find a cheap 40 channel ssb radio I can put in it. Probably a Realistic as I don't have use for most of their radios...

When I get going on it, I will post some pictures

Much like the old Expo kits. This one has so many xtals they added a vfo board on it to cover the different ranges. Looks like they tried to make something like a 200GTL-DX. That would have been a neat radio to have

Ham Radio Circuits and Repair / Re: Heathkit Apache TX-1 restore

Wish I was good with tubes. I wouldn't mind doing a restore on something like this.
I have a Uniden Madison that is pretty much unmolested. It has channels and slider, but other than a repair to the clock, it has not been touched. I works good now, but I want to re-cap it, beef up the power supply some and remove the clock and insert a frreq counter. I will probably also change it to blue leds, but maybe not.
I think restoring a tube radio from the 50's would be something to be proud of.
Good luck.. keep us updated
