CW / CW and Hearing problems
« on: March 04, 2008, 08:04:43 AM »
Well,
Last night I went out to the shack and turned the hf rig on. Went to 40 meters to do a little code.

Could not copy a lick! Played with the filter settings and nadda. Was thinking what is wrong with my rig?? Turn the other rig on and same problem. Then it came to me why.

A few months ago I have a real bad ear infection. And been having problems ever since. (Right Ear). I can not even use a Ceil phone with that ear. Every thing is scratchy and muffled sounding.

Guess I am going to have to try a single ear phone. So I do not hear the code with my right ear. This is very discouraging :(

Home Brew And Tech Forum / Icom 745 missing upper bands
« on: February 28, 2008, 05:39:28 AM »
I went out in the shack yesterday evening after a two week absence. (sick and busy). Fired up my 745 and noticed that from 24 to 29 mhz was not working. flipped through the bands and went back and saw they were working. after a few minutes of playing around I found it to be intermittent.

The original owner never used those bands. He used mostly 40 and 80 meters CW. After looking through the service manual there is one relay that controls that segment of bands. In the matching network of the final stage.

When the problem occurs the s-meter falls to zero and sounds as if the antenna has been disconnected. All functions still work but no rf power out.

So appears I have to replay a dirty relay.

It is required that you have a valid email address before you sign up on this forum. This is required for several reason. One is to keep some of the spammers out. Two is to help keep the idiots out like the one inpersonating Charlie from QRZ.com. (Yes, I have your IP address)

This kind of foolishness will not be tolerated here.
This forum is here to Help and provide assistants to would be Amateur radio opperators and new ones alike.

Announcements / Name This Site
« on: February 23, 2008, 08:49:33 AM »
This site has always been called "Gokarters" since the beginning.
Although the url has gokarters in it I think it is time for a name.
Sometime in the future the url will be changed. I think I have 7 to 8 months left on this one.

I like you (the users) list names that would cover the theme of the site.
We will run this thread for a month and see what we come up with.

At the end of the month we will post a poll on the listed Theme Names.

Announcements / Board lag server problem
« on: February 21, 2008, 06:48:39 PM »
I guess some of you notice a lag in board responce. Seems slow at time. Douple post. Page not found error.

I am in contact with PHP webhosting and vbulletin on this issue.
Not sure were the problem is but last time this happened it was thought to be fixed. But I see it still occurs.

Please bear with us as we work through this issue.

Thanks.

HF Radios / Trade Kenwood TS520 for 6 meter
« on: February 21, 2008, 08:47:17 AM »
Thought I try this and see what I can get.
I have a Kenwood TS-520. Stock mic and manual.
Radio works great. Recently cleaned the VFO because of a warble sound. Found the grease had dried out. Now works great.
Meter light is out but will replace.

Radio is a 8 out of 10 cosmetic. A few paint chips and a scratch or 2. Nothing major. Front of unit is great all but the silver paint on the edge is showing some fading.

Would like to trade for a 6 meter all mode of equal value.
Really hate to let this one go. Sounds great on the air. But do not need three HF Rigs.
