Elmers Forum / An Amateur Satellite Primer
« on: March 12, 2008, 01:49:03 AM »
Attached is a good Beginner Intro to Satellites from the ARRL website that came out of QST.  Any questions about the article feel free to ask.  The antenna we will be building will not be directional.  This is actually easier and much cheaper than some of the setups you read about on the net.

Elmers Forum / AMSAT Satellite Info

If you go to Sat Status it will give you a list of the Sats.
If you go to passes and type in the info requested it will give you info on when you will be able to work the Sat at your location.  You can also look at a map and follow the sat on its course on a map.
Other neat things to look at on this site as well.

Elmers Forum / Satellite Project
« on: March 12, 2008, 01:35:19 AM »
Hopefully if I did it right there will be an attachment for a satellite antenna project.  This is a fairly easy project.  I want to thank Duncan for sending me the article.  What I plan to do is have us build the antenna and then set a date where we can all try to use it to communicate through a satellite or the ISS repeater.  Working the satellites can be a lot of fun.  Using a dual band ht or a dual band radio is all you need to make it work.  I\'ll be posting some general knowledge on Working Sats as well.  Be sure to ask any questions you might have and I\'ll be glad to help or get Buddy the satellite guru in here to assist.

Announcements / W4U Special Event Station at Ocean Isle, NC
« on: February 25, 2008, 10:29:35 PM »
There will be a Special Event station at Ocean Isle, NC starting next Monday, March 3 through Friday, March 7.  The crew will be using kite flown antennas and maybe some other type antennas if the wind doesn\'t cooperate.  The event callsign is W4U.  I am planning to be down there as well, health permiting.  I will post some frequencies that we will try to stay near as soon as they are decided on.  They will also be posted under the callsign lookup on QRZ if I forget to post them here.  Hope to work some of ya\'ll while we\'re there.  Any questions feel free to PM or e-mail me.

New member welcome / Hello everybody!

Hello everybody!

I see some familiar call signs from that other forum I\'m on.  This place looks neat.  I see a forum on satellites.  I\'ve made one satellite contact and would like to make some more.
