Post by: KC4UMO on January 24, 2010, 11:12:35 AM
Here is my lastest project to restore.
This  is a TX-1 transmitter from heathkit. Made in the late 50\'s.

To think my wife thinks I waste my time on things she\'s not interested in.  How do you guys get away with this?  I need to know the secret to life beyond the mundane. LOL

Wish I was good with tubes. I wouldn't mind doing a restore on something like this.
I have a Uniden Madison that is pretty much unmolested. It has channels and slider, but other than a repair to the clock, it has not been touched. I works good now, but I want to re-cap it, beef up the power supply some and remove the clock and insert a frreq counter. I will probably also change it to blue leds, but maybe not.
I think restoring a tube radio from the 50's would be something to be proud of.
Good luck.. keep us updated

Hey hackingdave.
Welcome to the site.  Restoring radio is my life.  It does make one proud to sit back and admire an old relic that you got working.  Most of the time we dont paint or change the appearance of a restored rig. Gives it character.

Good deal on the Madison. The frequency counter would be a nice addition to replace the clock with.  Hope you post up some pics when completed. That thing should shine :)

I really liked the Madison.  Soon after I gave mine to my grandson the clock failed.  I gave him a Digalog CPC-100 display I had intended on tacking onto my D201, but he returned it to me because he wanted to leave the Madison stock.  That was some years back and I never got around to hooking it up to the Tram because I don't have any problem getting on frequency with the VFO.

Good running into you again RT.

Well looks like it is time to revamp this old thread. Time to go ahead with a newer TX-1 and get it going. Got something in the Mail today thanks to Chuck. It will be on an upcoming mail time video.

Presenting the Heathkit SB-10. What this unit does is makes the TX-1 into a SSB transmitter.
