What is it?
I found out what this tractor is.
It is an original MTD 990. Somewhere between 1972 and 1974.

That was my first guess as it being a sears. I went to a tractor forum today and link some pics over. With in an hour I had several replies. And was shocked to find the answer.
Come to find out this tractor was made by MTD in the very early 70's. So we now know the maker. Just have to find the model. I am told that they did not use tags but stamped on serial data. And they told me where to look. So will do that one day this week.
I also found that this tractor has been re-baged over 20 times. So there are many "models" out there. All the same but different paint schemes. JC Penney, Orion, Unico, Alis Chambers, Montgomery Ward, just to name a few.
That engine is a cast iron 10 hp Briggs and Stratton. I already ran the numbers on it. Biggest 10 hp I ever seen lol.
Going to be a fun restore. Most of the parts are there and they still make stuff for this one :)
The exhaust is a mess for sure.

Got the front wheels off last night. Tires are shot. I already have 2 new ones. But need inner tubes. I dont this the rims will old air at this point.

Got the tractor in the shop. Started disassemble process.
I now know this is a MTD 900 series tractor. Just not sure of the make.
The id tag is just a piece of foil and the printing is gone.
If I can get the steer wheel off then remove the dash may be able to put under the microscope to read it.

Got to chassis sand blasted and primed

In one of the above pics I found a crack in the front of the frame where the attachments connect. Ground down and welded up

Now to start with all the small parts on the table then to the large pile of metal sitting in the corner.

Broke my PTO shaft.
Will have to cut out shaft and weld in anew one made from a bolt.

One wheel blasted, painted and reinstalled.

We now have brakes :)
Both foot and park brake working

How or what; material are you using to fix the plastic in the dash and how did you determine what kind of repair plastic was compatible?
Also- you're doing an awful lot of work to that mower - who's cutting the grass while you're busy rebuilding this one?

Thanks. It is a lot of work.....
The dash plastic is ABS. Just like some pipe material that can be purchased at Lowes.
To make filler for it:
Small chopped up pieces of ABS pipe.
1 oz ABS cement
Bottle of Acetone.
Place everything in glass jar. Cover ABS with Acetone. Stir
Let sit overnight.
The next day you will end up with a slurry. Stir it up and see if it is too thick or too running. Add material as needed.
As far as the grass, that would be me. Need to cut it twice a week but only getting it one time a week at the moment. :(
This tractor will probably never mow grass. Will see more of moving earth with a front end loader and box blade.

Earlier, we had talked about what kind of motor it had, you found out it's a Briggs and Stratton 10HP cast iron.
Any idea if it ran? Started ok? Needed Carburetor? Electric Start, Pull Start - or PUSH start? :P
New paint ... but how was the "Innards" looking?
Was reviewing the photos - they left it sitting there - a rusted wreck.
Hope they didn't neglect the motor too badly.

Man I was wrong on engine size. Back in the 70's Briggs used the same block when building cast iron. I ran the motor serial number 325431-0150-01-7201241 and found out lots of info.
This is a 32 cubit inch engine and that puts it at 16 HP. And was made in Jan 24th 1972.
Opened the engine up and everything looks good. Compress is well with in spec, no back lash on the rod to crank journal.
The carb was the worse part of the engine. Looks like someone had changed the throttle spring and this let the throttle shaft vibrate in the bore. So have a new carb kit and throttle shaft with butter fly on order.
I did crank the engine before tearing the tractor down. Drove it down the street and back. Motor ran fine other than leaking gas from the carb. Also the hydro unit pulled real good.
