Trivia And Games / the farmer and the hired hand
« on: February 15, 2008, 08:37:03 AM »
The banker saw his old friend Tom, an eighty-year old rancher, in town.

Tom had lost his wife a year or so before and rumor had it that he was marrying a "mail order" bride.

Being a good friend, the banker asked Tom if the rumor was true. Tom assured him that it was. The banker then asked Tom the age of his newbride to be. Tom proudly said
"She\'ll be twenty-one in November."

Now the banker, being the wise man that he was, could see that the sexual appetite of a young woman could not be satisfied by an eighty-year-old man.

Wanting his old friend\'s remaining years to be happy the banker tactfully suggested that Tom should consider getting a hired hand to help him out on the ranch, knowing nature would take its own course.

Tom thought this was a good idea and said he would look for one that afternoon.

About four months later, the banker ran into Tom in town again.

"How\'s the new wife?", asked the banker.

Tom proudly said, "Good - she\'s pregnant."

The banker, happy that his sage advice had worked out, continued, "And how\'s the hired hand?"

Without hesitating, Tom said, "She\'s pregnant too."

Antennas and Towers / Looking to build a wi-fi antenna!?
« on: January 28, 2008, 10:25:52 PM »
First of all, what kind of reach can you get?  Line of sight.  Then, can a poormans-antenna really do any good?  I appreciate any info on this, as right now I have no idea what needs to be done.  Router, pc , is laptop needed, etc.  I want this for home, not as my primary internet connection, but just for a low output/input setup for 24/7.   Thanks everyone,  crazy

« on: December 25, 2007, 10:27:51 AM »
This has been a glorious Christmas for my family.  It couldn\'t be better as far as I am concerned.   I hope everyone gives glory to God, after all, this is his day, even if we do not know the exact day of Jesus Christs birth.    Enjoy the time with your families, and praise God for all he has done.

« on: December 07, 2007, 12:50:10 PM »
He had a heart attack on the 1st of December, and after stints, balloons and other treatments they attempted a 4 way bypass.  He did not make it.  He will be missed for sure.  God bless his family, as Dan is now looking down from above, no doubt.

Other related issues / Need help changing log-in settings on my pc
« on: May 20, 2007, 07:39:58 AM »
Ever since I re-loaded XP after it crashed a few weeks ago,  My pc automatically logs me off after only 1 minute.  I only have to click on the desired user to continue, but I am unhappy with that.   I  have looked high and low for the menu to change the settings to no avail.   Is there a way or a place (and I am sure there is) where I can change the time for it to log out  from 1 minute to longer or never?  It isn\'t in power options on the control panel.   I was so happy to recover my hard drive that it didnt\' bother me at first.  But now I am returning to my spoiled ways and I sure would like to fix it.   Thanks my friend,  crazy

Hardware talk / Harddrive crashed, got it back by luck.
« on: May 13, 2007, 10:24:17 PM »
I have been having pc problems for a couple of weeks now.  I ran several tests and it showed that I had over a thousand registry errors.  Then I lost the harddrive search function.  Then I lost system restore.  This is on XP, by the way.  I tried to run my XP disc and repair it, but it lost everything.  about 6 years worth of work.   I have never been so depressed about anything that wasnt\' family or health related.  I was below down. Everyone I talked to told me that it was gone for good, no way to get it back.  As a last resort I called up a local guy who works on computers.  Other technicians told me it was hopeless, but not this guy.  He said for $45 he would attempt to save all my info, and he felt he could because he has done this sort of thing many times.  I had nothing to lose, so I sent it to him.  He took the hard drive out, put it into one of his units, and he got everything back!  :woohoo:   For another $45, he added a 40 gig hard drive and ghosted my other one to it.  I am amazed.  He said he had some "special" software, but wouldn\'t talk about it.  I still dont\' have all the bugs out, but it is back up and I have all my data, as far as I can tell anyway.  I have been burning cd\'s like crazy.   He burned me a dvd with all the stuff I asked for, in case it crashed again.  The moral of the story is,  back up your data, even if you have a stable system.  THings can and do go wrong.
