New member welcome / Re: New member from Houston area

Hey Bob,

Welcome to the site. I'm kind of new around here myself.  Sounds like you got some great background in many things.  Love those old tube fender guitar amps. Sold my Super Champ along with one of my guitars few weeks ago to buy some CB test gear for the shop. Still have my RP350 but it is no where near as good as a real amp. Anyway glad to have you with us and look forward to some of your projects soon.

Test Equipment / Re: RF sampler / demodulator for oscilloscope

Cool device. I'm still looking for a box to build me one of these as well. I already have a RF sampler that I bought but I'm almost sure it has a choke in it. Never took it apart to see. Could have room in there to add the demod part but think I would rather just build a full unit like you did.

Test Equipment / ComTekk SINAD
« on: December 11, 2016, 08:31:43 AM »
I'm going to bite the bullet here and try this software. Since I have a few old computers laying around why not test this out.

Has anyone here used this software? http://www.comtekk.us/sinad.htm

15 day free trial will be enough to let me know if I need to buy it. Think I will try this: "a DC-blocking capacitor (0.1~4.7uF) is recommended as a minimum for protection of computer" just for safety reasons while testing this software. If it works out I will buy their Sound Card Isolator/Protector for better safety.

Stay tuned as I will post my results here to help others that have thought about buying this software.

I used this video to help track down why a marine radio wouldn't power up. It turned out to be the switch, so I jumped across the terminals and she fired up. It makes noise and the buttons do stuff, so I guess I'll be buying a 10K switch pot and playing around with it. The only problem is I can't find any info on it anywhere. the front of the radio says unimetrics SeaHawk 88 and the back shows model no. SH 88. That's about all i can tell you about it.

I got a ton of old CB's laying around for parts. Like buddy said post us a pic of it so we can help you find one. If I have one that will work I will mail it to you for free.
