Strange and Unusual Chat / Very Interesting-
« on: September 26, 2008, 09:56:56 PM »
VERY INTERESTING-
1. The Garden of Eden was in Iraq

2. Mesopotamia, which is now Iraq, was the cradle of civilization!

3. Noah built the ark in Iraq

4. The Tower of Babel was in Iraq

5. Abraham was from Ur, which is in Southern Iraq !

6. Isaac\'s wife Rebekah is from Nahor, which is in Iraq !

7. Jacob met Rachel in Iraq

8. Jonah preached in Nineveh - which is in Iraq

9. Assyria, which is in Iraq, conquered the ten tribes of Israel

10. Amos cried out in Iraq !

11 Babylon , which is in Iraq , destroyed Jerusalem

12. Daniel was in the lion\'s den in Iraq !

13. The three Hebrew children were in the fire in Iraq (Jesus had been in Iraq also as the fourth person in the Fiery Furnace!)

14. Belshazzar, the King of Babylon saw the \'writing on the wall\' in Iraq

15. Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, carried the Jews captive into Iraq

16. Ezekiel preached in Iraq ..

17. The wise men were from Iraq

18. Peter preached in Iraq

19. The \'Empire of Man\' described in Revelation is called Babylon ,which was a cityin Iraq !

And you have probably seen this one: Israel is the nation most often mentioned in the Bible.

But do you know which nation is second?
It is Iraq !
However, that is not the name that is used in the Bible
The names used in the Bible are Babylon , Land of Shinar , and Mesopotamia . The word Mesopotamia means between the two rivers, more exactly between the Tigris
And Euphrates Rivers ...
The name Iraq , means country with deep roots.

Indeed Iraq is a country with deep roots and is a very significant country in the Bible.

No other nation, except Israel , has more history and prophecy associated
With it than Iraq

And also, This is something to think about:Since America is typically represented by an eagle.
Saddam should have read up on his Muslim passages...

The following verse is from the Koran, (the Islamic Bible)

Koran (9:11 ) - For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah;

And there was peace.
(Note the verse number!) Hmmmmmmm?!

Other than AR what are other things you like and do?

Myself,
Drag Racing
RC Planes
Small engine repair

Something else my wife and I are looking at is building and selling lawn ornaments. You seen the stuff that you sit out during the holidays made of wood and painted. Then during the off seasons you make other stuff like ducks, light houses ect.

I think I could make it a family business.
There is a elderly couple on the other side of the county that does this. They are making a fortune. Always busy with it.

Radio Restoration and Repair database / Restoring a Siltronix 1011C
« on: August 23, 2008, 09:15:52 AM »
Not sure why I am doing this. Guess it is just because I want to prove that I can?:arf2:

Anyway a lady I did some work for gave me this old thing. I really did not want it but just could not say no. After taking the rust bucket home I noticed something. On the inside cover there was my call written in pencil. I owned the rig when I first got my ticket then later sold it. How she ended up with it I never may know.

Anyway the rig has been sitting in a garage for years. There was also pesticides stored over top of the shelf it was on. Rig has a lot of chassis rust. Although the electronics look good the chassis looks bad. Some of the iron core slugs are gone due to deterioration and two of the variable caps in the PA circuit are stuck.
But the under side looks good!
So basically tearing each compartment out and grinding out the rust the reassembling it.

Thinking about removing the "CB" band and adding more of the 10 meter band. Also the rig has no CW circuit so may have to add that.

This is going to take a while.....

Oscar Satellite talk / Old antenna restored
« on: August 09, 2008, 09:17:05 AM »
Many a year ago my Elmer N4CZT built this antenna for oscar 10.
It was originally 62elements. 30 x 30. Later when oscar 13 was running it was cut back to 42 elements. He bought this from him 15 years ago.

It is not much good for the birds that are up now (LEO). It is very directional.
But if we ever get any HEO birds up it would probably be fine.

What I plan now is to totally disassemble and restore it.

This beam was also used on EME

Here are the tune up and schematic.
The pic posted here is to attach frequency counter.
The attachments are at the bottom of this post.
This picture is on the web from ON6MU

The picture on the top is incorrect. As you can see the base of the transistor is shorted directly to ground along with the input signal.

The bottom picture is the corrected version.

Ham Radio Chit Chat / Amateur Radio Repair
« on: August 02, 2008, 09:41:23 AM »
Over the years I have helped friends and thier friends fix their "broken" radios.
And never did I charge anything for my service.
And through out that time there has only been a few that were not repairable. Due to obsolete parts.

So I been thinking about expanding a little. Start doing more of it for a small fee.  Seems we have so many hams that do not have the knowledge to repair their own stuff anymore. I have worked on a few newer style rigs like the Kenwood 2000 but I rather spend my time working on older equipment. Those that the manufacture no longer supports.

Comments please

As I sit here typing this  I must say that it is hard to hold back the tears that I am feeling right now.
Just moments ago at 1:03 pm 07/27/2008, I received a call . And looking at the caller ID It was my best friend and mentor Douglas Beckwith N4CZT. When I answered it was not the voice I was expecting. It was his son Chip.

He asked a few questions and validated who I was then told me the Doug had past away at 6 am this morning. I could not even say a word. My heart fell to my feet. Was like the biggest weight I have ever had. I then scrounged up enough courage to that him for calling me and telling me before I saw it in the paper.

Doug and I go back well before my ham days. He was the first radio amateur I ever met. I learned so much from him. I used to go out to field day and help him with satellites every year. Then after finally getting my own ticket we spent many times looking over equipment and talking about AR. And we have done so ever since.

I was to go see him later today.  Was going to exchange some info and pick up some parts.  We were in the process of designing a ssb transponder. Something we were going to play with and learn from. He was so into that stuff. He was really a dedicated Radio operator. A great friend.

Doug was very active on 6 meters. He runs a Kenwood TS200 with a SB200 amp. He used a 4 element quad. Every time the band was open he call me telling me to get in the shack you missing all the fun.

I sure am going to miss him but he will always be here in spirit.

And to his friends and family,  My heart and love goes out to each and every one of you.
