Only thing about this amp is it will not go directly behind the modern radios on the market today. You have to use a seperate receiver and transmitter.

This mosley a collectors item.

Ba-BUMP!

The large blue component with the wax on the end is a capacitor. As you can see the plastic around the capacitor has srunk. This is do to heat. Most likely that cap is bad. But what caused it?  Could be another component that has failed and cause the cap to go.

Does the unit do anything? Does light come on?
Let me know.

What kind of mileage does it get. :arf2:   I know this is a rather dumb question, but considering the source, some would say it\'s fitting. LOL  Do you guys get much traffic on these radios nowadays?  With all this new technology, I would think not.  And to add to my rather dumb questions, what is the fascination and advantages of this type of communicating?[/QUOTE

Lets see if I can splain Jade.
Ham radio unlike CB is a lot of fun. Cb is fun and has it\'s place also. But with ham radio you have to test to get your license. You can talk with folks all over the world. Not just with voice but with morse code, Slow Scan TV, and digital modes.

You can also make contacts via satellite. There are satellites that were but up by Amsat called OSCAR> orbital satellite carring amatuer radio. Plus a lot of astronauts are ham operators. So you can talk with the space shuttle or the International space station.

Yes technology has changed but it has also changed for ham radio. Making it more fun that ever.

Home Brew And Tech Forum / Restore those metal can capacitors
« on: October 09, 2009, 04:34:12 PM »
Apply hot glue to legs and fill the gap between capacitors and base.
This makes it sturdy and no chances of shorting out.

If you cut the can in the right place the cover will slide inside the base. If not clean the meatal a bit by grinding to fit.

What I did to keep the two halves together was pin the inside of the cover 1/16 of an inch from the bottom. This puts dimples that stick out around the outside bottom of the cover. Just slightly tap together and that is it.

This works great for old tram radios.
