transistor tester error and programming

Here is an error I get in avrdude

Top part in red of picture was a dry run without target connected.


Below was all connected so I have a driver issue.

So I connected the 328 onto a breadboard to program it directly. This way I should eliminate user errors.
It appears my firmware in my programmer needs an update.

So I decided to try this on my old tester. Now it has a different chip in it. So I knew there would be an error.
As you can see by the pic below the unit is communicating.
I have read a lot into the problem above and I am not sure if this is a firmware problem.

Wasn't your old tester using a 168 and not a 328?
