TS-520 Hi Voltage Cap Question
« on: November 19, 2019, 01:34:13 AM »
I am wondering if the Nichicon 150uf 600V units would be a good replacement for the stock 100uf 500V parts.  I've always been kind of a "more is better" person when it comes to electrolytic caps.

If you are referring to C19 and C20 you should be fine going to 150µF.  This will give you 75µF total being that they are in series.  I would not go much more than that though on the B+ line.  You would be fine staying at 100µF also.  As far as voltage more is better for sure.  You will essentially have made a 75µF 1200V cap!  That is 400V above the B+ so you should be safe there.  ;D

That's kinda what I figgered but wanted a sanity check.  They were just delivered from Mouser about 5 minutes ago.  I am torn between saving them for "when" or replacing them proactively.  I really hate tearing into something that works fine!

Replace them now don’t wait for them to go and possibly cause issues.

I probably will, just trying to weight that against me fat-fingering something!  My wife reminds me often how many things that quit working after I "fixed" them... :o

Then get someone else to change them if you do not feel comfortable.  However, I agree they should be changed very soon.
