Another Home brew 6 meter antenna
« on: February 15, 2008, 06:00:50 PM »
Was not much going on at home today. So I was in the shack on 20 meters.
And looking at my home brew 6 meter rig when it dawned on me.
I need a good antenna for this.

So I grabbed my calculator, tape measure and a pile of tubing.
Did this on the fly. Just wanted to see what I could come up with.
Sort of an old school antenna.
The elements are from old cb antennas. The clamps are from a discount store. The aluminum angle pieces came from exess door frames.

Boom- 1 1/2 X 16
Elements- 5\' X 3/4 with tapered down tubes.

Ref= 115 1/2 in
Driven= 111 in
D1 = 106 1/2 in
D2 = 102 in
D3 = 97 1/2 in
D4 = 93 in

Spacing is 34 1/2 inches all but the last director.  It is 45 inches.

Feed: Gamma Match
Tube is 14 inches.
Center conductor from RG-8 is 15 inches.

Gamma is made but not yet installed.

Will install in the morning and start testing

And the finished product.

Mounted about 4.5 feet above the homebrew 10 meter beam.

Now the wait for a band opening!

I hope you are grounding it all as you go.  Man that is such a lightning target, I hate to see you get  hit again, and lose it all.  Pray for the best.

Nice design Buddy, the next thing to do would be to put up a ground if you haven\'t. Either that or make sure your coax\'s in the station are disconnected when it\'s not in use!
