scratch built LM317 varible supply
« on: March 14, 2015, 03:24:37 PM »
I have been needing a new bench supply for a while now. The last day I was in Radio Shack I picked up one of there 24 volt 2 amp transformers for 5 bucks. So I decided this morning to throw a supply together from some spare parts I have.

Parts List:
•One  perfboard
•LM317 variable voltage regulator
• Bridge Rectifier
•Heat Sink
•120 VAC to 24 VDC transformer (mine is part number 273-1512b Radio Shack)
•Power cable
•Two 1000 microfarad capacitors
•One 0.1 microfarad capacitor
•One 1 microfarad capacitor
•One 100 ohm resistor
•One 5k ohm variable resistor
•One 1N4002 diode

The case is one I bought 10 years ago. I had removed the 13.8 supply from the case to go in my homebrew 6 meter rig. So the empty case came in handy.

All finished and it works great.
Need to check the ripple on it to see how it looks.
Usable range from 1.2 volts to 24 volts
